EFT Tapping: A Step-by-Step Guide to Letting Go of Stress in Minutes

EFT often called tapping therapy, uses fingertip tapping on acupressure points to calm the body’s stress response. It may look unusual, but clinical studies and my own Cardiff clients agree: EFT can dial down anxiety fast. Try the five-minute routine below and feel the difference for yourself.

Quick-Start EFT Routine

  1. Identify the Issue – “I feel overwhelmed before presentations.”

  2. Rate the Intensity – 0 = calm, 10 = highest anxiety.

  3. Set-Up Statement (karate-chop point) “Even though I feel overwhelmed, I deeply and completely accept myself.” (3 ×)

  4. Tapping Sequence – Tap roughly 7 times on each point while repeating a reminder phrase (“This overwhelm”).
    Eyebrow
    Side of eye
    Under eye
    Under nose
    Chin
    Collarbone
Under arm (4 inches down from armpit)
    Top of head

  5. Re-Rate the Intensity – Notice any drop (e.g., from 8 → 3). Repeat if needed.

Why Does EFT Work?

Research shows tapping lowers cortisol and reduces activity in the amygdala. Think of it as hitting the “reset” button on your nervous system.

When to Use EFT

  • Pre-exam or presentation jitters
  • Trouble winding down before sleep
  • Processing a difficult memory (with a therapist’s support)
